Starting in Mendenhall, you’ll paddle the easy current of the Takhini River through spruce forests, open valleys, and quiet backcountry. The river’s steady flow with just a touch of excitement makes it ideal for newcomers, families, or anyone looking for a short yet adventurous canoe trip.
Nights are spent camping along the riverbank under star-filled skies, with crackling fires and the soothing sound of water close by. After two nights in the wild, your final stretch carries you to the confluence with the mighty Yukon River — a fitting end to a northern escape.

Itinerary
Day 1
Your adventure kicks off with a shuttle from Whitehorse to Mendenhall Landing. After a safety briefing and gear check, launch onto the Takhini River and let the current carry you into the wilderness. Along the way, stop for a riverside lunch before paddling deeper into the valley. By evening, you’ll reach your first camp on the riverbank, where dinner and a campfire under the open sky set the tone for nights in the wild.
Day 2
Wake up to the sound of the river and a hearty camp breakfast before setting off downstream. The day brings easy paddling through wide valleys and chances to spot wildlife like bald eagles, moose, or beavers. Take a break for lunch on shore, then continue to your second riverside camp. Another evening of campfire stories and stargazing makes this day as unforgettable as the first.
Day 3
The final stretch of the Takhini offers calm waters and plenty of time to soak in the scenery. After one last stop along the shore, you’ll paddle to the take-out point where a shuttle awaits to bring you back to Whitehorse. It’s the perfect ending to three days of paddling, camping, and exploring the Yukon wilderness.
